Huge Haul...

I have been shopping at Borders a few times since my last haul post, so I have quite a few books to add to the site. I also bought a couple of books elsewhere (one at Walmart and one at Costco).

When I find all the books I bought, I will update with a very long post.

Book Haul - August 3rd, 2011

I went shopping at the mall yesterday and was surprised that the Borders was still open so I bought some more books. They were all reduced down to 20% off, plus I received an additional 10% off for being a Borders Rewards Plus member.

I tried to use my Borders Bucks that I mentioned in the last haul post, but it seems Borders no longer shows them anymore (in stores or on the website) which kind of sucked because I would have saved an additional $10.

Vixen by Jillian Larkin
Books and movies that take place in other time periods always interest me. This one takes place during the 1920s and I believe it is apart of a series.

The Lying Game by Sarah Shepard
I have the television book cover version because of the series coming to ABC Family in the future. Not entirely sure what it is about but I figured why not.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
I didn't even know this was a book until I saw a ChapterChicks video on YouTube. I enjoy the movie and like to read the novel to see the comparisons between the two.

Book Haul - August 1st, 2011

Since I now own a Kobo, I figured I would buy some eBooks for it. Also, Kobo had emailed me a couple of promo codes to use which gave me around 10% off each purchase.

The good and bad side of Kobo is you can only purchase one eBook at a time (since they don't have a shopping cart on the website).
Also, because I live in Canada, some eBooks aren't available to me (at least not on the Kobo website). Luckily, I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions which allows you to add eBooks from other sites to the Kobo.

Lost Voices by Sarah Potter
Honestly, the cover alone made me want to check this one out. It is so pretty plus the book itself is about mermaids, which always interests me.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I really wasn't sure what this one was about until I saw a review from ChapterChicks about it. The actual book itself contains pictures used within the story so I am not sure if those are included in the eBook version or not.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
I had never heard of this until I saw a Mailbox video from ChapterChicks. The plot of the book sounded really interesting so I figured I would check it out.

I still have $10 in Borders Bucks to use from Borders but since it doesn't apply to eBooks, I will probably end up getting a regular book sent. I normally get free shipping but for some reason, it wasn't working for me earlier.

Book Haul - July 26th, 2011

Since Borders is closing, I decided to visit my local one for the last time. It didn't even feel like a Borders store with the books all changed around and signs everywhere with different percentages off. Most books were only 10% off at the time, but I didn't really see anything I wanted. I did however pick up some.

I saved 10% on each of the following books.

Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King
One of the few Stephen King novels I don't actually own. I enjoyed the movie adaption of it so figured the novel would be a good read.

Needful Things by Stephen King
I thought I owned this but don't think I do so I bought it anyways. The movie was decent and I have never read the novel before.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
The book series is a pretty popular one and with the movie coming out, I thought I would read the novel first.

Book Haul - July 19th, 2011

Aside from the books listed below, I also bought the little Pink plaid Hello Kitty doll I was missing. I own the Blue plaid and the Purple plaid and needed the pink one. I also bought Issue #26 of the Supernatural magazine.

Mystic River by Dennis Lehane
I enjoy the movie adaptation of the novel so I figured I should read the novel and see how I like it and how it compares to the movie.

A Kiss In Time by Alex Flinn
I really rather enjoyed Flinn's novel, Beastly, and figured I would also like this one. It is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty plus the cover is really pretty.

Cirque Du Freak: A Living Nightmare by Darren Shan
I watched The Vampire's Assistant last year and actually really enjoyed it. I almost picked up that book but realized (and remembered) that it wasn't the first book in the series, which is kind of confusing.

Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews
I have never read any V.C. Andrews novels before but figured I would start with this one since I liked the movie. This was under the Horror section of Borders so I am guessing it is darker than the movie is.

Both books are in hardcover and I rarely buy hardcover copies of books (prefer paperback).

Book Haul - July 11th, 2011

Twisted by Sara Shepard
Since this was a newer release, I bought it for 20% off the listing price. I own the others in the series, so I of course but this one to help round it off.

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
The sampler for this was in my boxed set of Vampire Academy. I haven't read the sampler but the cover alone made me want to check out this book. I used a 40% off coupon for this.

Both books are in hardcover and I rarely buy hardcover copies of books (prefer paperback).

Borders Closing :(

As most people know, Borders has gone bankrupt and therefore, are closing down all their stores, and soon the website.

This really disappointed me. I have been a faithful Borders customer for years and will definitely miss shopping there.
They always had a really good selection, friendly staff, easy to navigate store, and really good coupons.
I have spent a lot at Borders over the years, but also saved a lot.

Due to the fact they are closing and the closest bookstore to me is Chapters (which I never shop at), I bought an eReader. I do realize the internet and eReaders were a contributing factor to the bankruptcy of Borders, I had been considering getting one for a while but opted out because I prefer hardcover/paperback versions of my books.

I ended up getting a Kobo Touch. So far, it is pretty good.
I had the Harry Potter series on my computer in the correct format that the Kobo uses (ePub) and had started re-reading the series again (in honour of Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 coming out) so I am now using my Kobo to read them instead of the actual books I own (so I get some use out of it right away).

Again, I am really saddened that Borders is closing :(
I loved the store and the website is also closing in the future as well.

I do have some books I bought a while back that I need to post though, so look out for that post.

Due to the fact I now own a Kobo, pretty much all of my future hauls (aside from the two posted above) will most likely be digital downloads (aka. for my Kobo). If I read any of these, I will also do reviews on them.

I will still be going to stores, like Target and Sam's Club, that sell books, so if any catch my eye, I will probably still buy from those stores.
